Adventurous Things to do in Sedona for Couples
Look, if Sedona is known for one thing, it’s the rock formations. The red rock formations are cool to see up close and in person. Making it an absolute must for things to do in Sedona for couples. But they also make a fantastic option for a little bit of adventure. In fact, it is widely believed that five of the most sacred Red Rock Formations in Sedona each hold an energy vortex. And yep, you can pick which ones you want to experience. We personally vibe on Bell Rock & Cathedral. But, Airport Mesa, Boynton Canyon, or The Chapel of Holy Cross might be more your thing. We’ll break them down for you a bit more.
Bell Rock
Bell Rock is a loop hike of about a mile to a mile and a half. The hike is considered moderate, with the ascension being a bit more difficult. We would consider this hike extremely easy as there’s many paths to explore and they are mostly flat. Pups are allowed, as long as they are leashed. The magnetic energy at Bell Rock is masculine and provides serenity and a high spiritual perspective. A parking pass at Bell Rock runs $5. If you’re staying at a local Airbnb, check if your stay includes a free parking pass.

Cathedral Rock
You’ll find that the hike at Cathedral Rock Trail is moderate to severe. In total, the trail is about a mile. Dogs are also allowed here, but again, they must be on a leash. Most dogs can’t make it to the top because there is some rock crawling/scrambling involved. Cathedral Rock has a feminine energy. It’s a great spot for meditation to cleanse and reenergize the spirit. A parking pass at Cathedral Rock costs $5. If you’re thinking about visiting the Red Rocks more than once while you’re in town, you might want to check out a Red Rock pass. You can purchase a Red Rock pass online at this link. With the purchase of a Red Rock pass, you can avoid the $5 parking fee; which must be displayed on your car’s rearview.

Airport Mesa
This vortex is a loop trail, and it’s about 3.3 miles in total. The loop is unshaded and it can be brutal in the summer heat. So, if you’re visiting in the summer it would be best to hit the trail in the early morning hours. We’ll also point out that the trail is rocky and there are a few narrow paths. You can take pets on a leash, but again, it gets crazy hot. When it comes to spiritual energy at Airport Mesa, you’ll feel a balance between feminine & masculine that provides stability and harmony. To experience Airport Mesa there will be a $3 fee for parking.

Boynton Canyon
Looking for a hike that’s more beginner-friendly? We highly recommend Boynton Canyon. In total, it’s about a 5-mile hike and the terrain is mild. This is another dog-friendly hike, although it gets hot just like Airport Mesa. Pack plenty of water if you plan to take on this vortex. Boynton Canyon provides a magnetic yet tranquil energy. It’s where you want to be to gain a deeper understanding of self. Admission to the Boynton Canyon vortex is $5 for a parking pass.

The Chapel of Holy Cross
Located at Chicken Point viewpoint, the hike to The Chapel of Holy Cross is somewhat easy. Also, the trek to the chapel ends at a junction with Little Horse Trail, so you have the option to keep exploring. The total distance of this hike is 1.3 miles and pets are not allowed. The chapel is free to enter. Inside you’ll find an incredible carved depiction of the crucifixion. This particular vortex also brings visitors an energetic feeling of deep gratitude through love & unity.

Things to do in Sedona for couples that don’t involve hiking? There are two more must-see spots for couples to check out, no hiking required. If you want to get outdoorsy in Sedona we highly recommend Red Rock State Park and the creek at Grasshopper Point.
Red Rock State Park
Stretched across 286 acres, Red Rock State Park is a nature preserve. It’s one of the best low-key things to do in Sedona for couples. There are walking trails throughout the park that run along the banks of Oak Creek. Let’s just say, the views are about as epic as it gets. Pets and swimming are not prohibited at Red Rock. Also, if you decide to check it out, you gotta stick to the trails. It helps protect the habitat so everyone can enjoy it. The total cost to enter the park is $17/per person.

Grasshopper Point
So you can’t swim at Red Rock State Park, but you can at Grasshopper Point. Grasshopper Point is the place to cool off. It’s located at the base of Oak Creek Canyon and it’s a fantastic spot for taking a dip or having a picnic. Though you might be tempted, cliff jumping is not allowed. There are varying sizes of rock formations under the water, so just get in the water the good old-fashioned way.
